Shipping Container Conversion Examples
Shipping containers can be customised to meet a wide range of requirements. They can be joined for custom widths or lengths, stacked for multi-storied accommodation or customised with the addition of windows, heating, air conditioning, insulation, personnel doors, plumbing and electrics.
Below is a gallery of bespoke conversions to give you an idea of what is possible. Dainton Portable Buildings has experience of many conversions from previous customer projects so please telephone 01626 833875 or contact Dainton Portable Buildings to discuss your shipping container conversion requirements.
Custom Sizes and Dimensions
Storage containers are available in standard container dimensions but sometimes customers require customised sizes to meet their bespoke requirements.
In these scenarios, containers can be joined together to create units with custom dimensions, as these photographs of a 16x20 unit consisting of two 8x10 containers demonstrate.
When shipping containers are stacked for multi-storey accommodation, safe access becomes a priority. External stairs can be fitted to meet these needs and are available in a variety of colours and styles. We can fit shipping container stairways for you when customising your container and also provide container repaint services.
Shared Storage Solutions
This example shows how a 40x8 container can be converted for use as a shared storage solution. Individual compartments have been created with doors along the side.
This type of solution is ideal for storing items such as tools in an allotment or other outdoor communal space where watertight and secure storage is required.
Gas Bottle Storage
Converting containers for storing gas bottles is an excellent example of how their inherent characteristics of strength and security can be used to safely store potentially dangerous materials. Ventilation, bright colours and clear labelling can maintain health and safety standards.
Equestrian Equipment Storage
Containers can be converted for storing a wide variety of equipment and goods. Professional conversion services mean the possibilities are endless and the secure, weather-proof design of shipping containers makes them suitable for long-term outdoor use.
Valuable belongings such as equestrian equipment can be stored in the safe knowledge that it is secure, such as in this custom horse tack unit.
Transporting Live Stock (DEFRA approved)
Sometimes shipping containers can be converted for unexpected uses. With suitable ventilation and access, containers can even be used for shipping live stock. These photographs are of DEFRA (Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs) approved horse box units.
Standard shipping containers have doors at one end of the unit. These can be customised to provide access at both ends or along the side. This customisation can make loading and unloading of units a lot more efficient and convenient, particularly where large and heavy items are being stored.
Open Sided Containers
In some scenarios, an open sided container is required and the doors can be removed completely.
Containers with Curtains
For easy access to the contents of a shipping container and where an open sided unit is not suitable, curtains can be fitted to the sides or front. Like the door options, a variety of curtain styles are available and are sometimes preferred to allow easy loading and unloading of transported goods.
Although a variety of doors can be fitted to the front and sides of containers, sometimes a roller shutter is preferred. Manual or mechanical roller shutters can be fitted for uses such as vehicle storage or when an out-swinging door is not appropriate.
